ChatGPT Setup
Massive's remote MCP server is listed in the ChatGPT app directory, giving ChatGPT live access to dividends, quotes, trades, options chains, and the rest of our catalog. It queries our REST API under the hood, with all calls hitting the same live API used by programmatic integrations.
This guide walks through adding Massive from the directory and authenticating over OAuth. There is nothing to install. Setup takes about two minutes and requires a ChatGPT account plus a Massive account.
What You Can Do
After setup, you can ask ChatGPT to:
- Pull the prior session's top gainers and losers and summarize what drove them.
- Compare dividend yields across a sector and rank by payout reliability.
- Draft a morning market brief using Massive's live snapshot data.
- Check options open interest near the money for any ticker before earnings.
ChatGPT handles the conversational framing. Massive handles the data. The combination is strongest for exploratory, conversational queries where you want structured market data in plain English rather than code.
Setup
Add Massive from the App Directory
- Log in to chatgpt.com and open the Massive app listing in the ChatGPT app directory. You can also find it under Settings → Apps & Connectors → Browse apps by searching for "Massive."
- Click Connect.
- Sign in to your Massive account when redirected and approve access. Authentication uses OAuth, so there is no API key to copy or store. A free Basic account is enough to start.
To use Massive in a chat, click +, choose Massive, or simply ask a market data question and ChatGPT will call the app when it's relevant.
Note: On Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces, an admin may need to enable Massive before members can connect it. Menu labels change often, so if you can't find them, check ChatGPT's current apps documentation.
Fallback Without the Directory
If Massive doesn't appear in your app directory (for example, because your workspace restricts directory apps), you can add the remote server manually using Developer mode. This path requires a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu).
- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and toggle on Developer mode (a beta feature).
- In Settings → Apps & Connectors, click Create, name the connector "Massive," and enter the remote server URL:
- Set Authentication to OAuth, confirm you trust the application, click Create, and complete the Massive sign-in.
Note: Developer mode is a beta feature, and an organization admin can turn it off.
Your MCP access mirrors your Massive entitlements. You can query any asset class your plan includes. If you have Stocks access, stocks data is available through MCP. Requesting data you are not entitled to (for example, Options without an Options plan) returns an access-denied error.
Test the Integration
Now that the connection is live, put it through its paces. A few prompts to start with:
- "Show me the latest trade for AAPL." (Trades)
- "Is the U.S. market open right now?" (Market Status)
- "When is the next market holiday?" (Market Holidays)
- "What dividends has AAPL paid this year?" (Dividends)
- "Give me a snapshot of today's biggest gainers." (Snapshots)
When you're ready to go deeper, hand ChatGPT a full brief and let it chain several calls together:
Pull all dividends declared in the last 30 days, filter to U.S. stocks with a market cap over $50 billion, rank them by yield, and summarize the top five with their pay dates.
ChatGPT will issue several connector calls and stitch the results into a single ranked answer.
Troubleshooting
Massive isn't in the app directory. Your workspace admin may not have enabled it yet. Ask them to, or use the custom connector fallback.
Massive isn't available in the chat. Confirm Massive shows as connected under Settings → Apps & Connectors. If you used the fallback, also confirm Developer mode is still enabled and select Massive via + → More → Developer mode in the chat.
Authentication didn't complete. Re-open Settings → Apps & Connectors, reconnect Massive, and finish the OAuth sign-in.
ChatGPT responds with made-up numbers. The connector wasn't invoked. Start your message with "use the Massive connector to" and name the data you want.
Access-denied errors. You're querying an asset class your plan doesn't include. Check your entitlements in the Dashboard.
